These sessions provide an opportunity to meet and share thoughts, understanding and experiences in our individual Christian journeys. The group will agree themes for a single session, or a series of sessions. You are welcome to arrive from 7.00 p.m. for a chat and light refreshment before the 7.30 p.m. start.
Meetings will be held at Old Arley on the second Monday of the month and at Ansley on the fourth Monday of the month. There will be no meetings on Bank Holiday Mondays nor on the fifth Monday of a month. Come along when you can, you will be very welcome.

Prayer Meeting
The next meeting will be Tuesday 28th July in St John’s at 2.00 p.m. All are welcome.
Britain in Bloom
Following last year’s very pleasing result, the residents of the village are entering the Britain in Bloom competition again, with the support of Ansley Village Gardening Group. The judging will take place on Friday 17th July. The churchyard and the surrounding area are included in the judging. We would appreciate any help in tidying the churchyard. There is plenty to do, especially the paths. If you have a few hours available and are able to help, it would be greatly appreciated.
Back in Time – August Bank Holiday Monday 2026
Plans are progressing well for this year’s Back in Time event at St Laurence Church, Ansley on 31st August. The theme this year is ‘The Victorians.’ There will be a Great British Sewing Bee Challenge at the event.
Have you a piece of needlepoint, cross stitch or embroidery that you would consider entering for the competition? It could be something your mum, dad grandparent or other relative created, or something you have made yourself. If you have an item to send in, entry forms are available from church or by emailing janetdownmbe@gmail.com.
A raffle is being held. The tickets have been printed and are available now. If you can sell some, do please ask for some books of tickets. The first prize is a ‘Ninja Multi Cooker.’
An exhibition of Victorian items will be on view in the Annexe as well as a presentation of Victorian clothing and household items.
A talk will be given in church on church life at Ansley in Victorian times.
There will also be Victorian games quizzes and entertainment for you to enjoy.
Refreshments will be available to buy, tea, coffee cake etc.
Everyone will be most welcome.
Janet has assured us that sunshine has been ordered again!
We hope it will be as lovely a day as last year’s ‘Forties’ event.
The entry fee will be reduced for those who arrive at the event in Victorian costume. Look out for Posters or contact Janet for further details.
An event like this can only happen with the help of many willing volunteers. As you can imagine there will be a lot to do, both before, during the day and clearing away afterwards. Your help would be invaluable. Do contact Janet or a church member for details of how you could contribute. We would love to hear from you.
Open Gardens Sunday 14th June 2026
It was a lovely sunny day. It is estimated that almost 200 adults visited at least some of the gardens. People had an enjoyable day and greatly appreciated the work that had been put in by the gardeners. Funds were raised for different charities, with the total amounting to just over £1,700.

Giving to the Church
Did you know that if you buy things online many organisations, but not Amazon, will make a small donation to a fund called Easy Fundraising. They collect together, from each transaction, the small percentage that participating companies give. Once the sum totals over £25, it is sent to the Church account. Last year the church received £50 in this way. Over the years a total of over £550
has been received. Although small amounts are involved, together they help increase the church’s income.
The website is
https://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/causes/stlchurchansley
Another way to help is that, if you were to use a Sum-Up Card to donate to the church, they would not charge a fee for the transaction and you would receive 5% cash back.
These may seem small sums but as we know, every penny helps.
Church Fabric
Over the last few months work has been carried out to repair parts of the churchyard wall, especially the lower section below the row of five lime trees.
Work has also been carried out on thirty metres of external ground gutters at the base of the church walls. This is to prevent water from penetrating into the walls. The area completed so far is along the east end of the Chancel and the south wall, from the top of the Chancel to the porch. This specialist work has to be carried out in the right weather conditions, not too hot and not too cold, as well as not too wet. The bill of £3200 has been paid from the Fabric Fund.
It is important that we continue to carry out these relatively small tasks on a regular basis to ensure that we keep the church building and its surroundings in good order.
The Annexe
The next project this year is to give the Annexe a bit of TLC. It was built in 2003 and has needed very little work in the last twenty three years. The external woodwork will be painted and the window sills repaired.
A Cat in Church
Having pieced together various occurrences that were noticed in church over a period of time recently, it was realised that a cat must have been in the building for at least ten days! A missing cat had been found by someone after a similar period of time. It was extremely thin and did not want to leave the house.
We were fortunate that some damage to a window that the cat had caused was able to be repaired in situ. The work was carried out when the specialist visited to look at the situation. The bill came to £50 which will fortunately not necessitate an insurance claim.
It is hoped that the cat will be back to full health by now.
