Marie’s July Musings

It is amazing how the news on T.V.  gives us pictures from all over the world and in space sometimes and although we can’t do a thing about it, many of these items affect our lives.

I personally have looked forward to the Football World Cup, when the best players in the world are pitted against each other.  I am watching as many games as possible but unfortunately it is taking place in U.S.A.,Mexico and Canada so the times are strange.  However, wouldn’t it be great if this world cup could bring nations together through their common love of football.

Why do Cucumbers have to be wrapped in plastic, some Swedes also?  We are told to recycle and yet plastic is everywhere.  Before anyone had ever heard of Global Warming, life was much simpler, but now it is not because most people don’t recycle.  It is because we don’t know what to recycle and there is so much of it.

Watching the birds in our garden I saw Blackbirds, Sparrows, Pigeons all eating amicably together.  There was no fighting or quarrelling and it made me think how lovely it would be if human beings could agree.  However, after saying this there is always one to spoil the peace and the Robin was not in the mix.  If he had arrived he would have shown his authority because I think the Robin is friendlier to humans than he is to other bird species.

Among the people who have worked towards peace in the Middle East was Tautig Zayyad, one time Mayor of Nazareth, who once said, “I dream of a day when there will be bread in every mouth, a smile on every face, and a rose in every hand.”  What a lovely thought and one which we would all dream of.
