There was an article in a magazine titled, “How can I beat the summer heat?” We all wanted some tips during July and August when it was sweltering hot. Simply drinking to thirst works well but that said, sweat rate still climbs rapidly in hot weather even when you are not very active, so keeping a bottle of water to hand, not waiting until you feel parched is a smart habit. Salt is important too. If you’ve been out for a few hours in real heat, a salty snack will help you rehydrate more effectively than water alone.
The footballers during the World Cup were seen swilling Peppermint around their mouths then spitting it out. Research shows that mint triggers your body’s cold receptors creating an instant cooling sensation. Perhaps this is nice to know if we have other heat waves.
My daughter asked me where I got my long handled teaspoons from. I told her they were about 50 years old from “Betterware”. This brought back memories when the Betterware man called and I bought furniture polish etc. from him. He gave Jane (my small daughter) tiny tins of polish so that she had her own to help with the polishing. My favourite polish was the Lavender. The spoons would have been free. I am sure there will be many who remember the Betterware man.
After the high temperatures we see dead and scorched fields and many loved garden plants killed by the intense heat. However, in our garden, we have some weeds which are green and flowering and 5 feet high. Why don’t they need water and can stand temperatures of up to 34 degrees?
One song can tell a story. One wish can wake a dream. One seed can start a forest. One hand begins a chain of love. One candle lights a room. One love can bring a spark of hope. One hope can conquer gloom. One voice can speak with courage. One heart can know what’s true. One life can make a difference. One life belongs to you.
