Anyone who knows me knows I eat a lot of Jelly Babies (among other sweets), so I was interested to read on the Maynard’s Bassetts packet that they are commemorating the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings honouring those who served. Originally known as Peace Babies, jelly babies were launched in 1918 to celebrate the end of the First World War. A limited edition packet has now been produced to support Help For Heroes. £25,000 will be given to this charity.
I have been really concerned about the garden this year as age and the weather have been against us. However, I think our garden likes being neglected as Camellias have been the best ever, the Clematis is great even though part of the arch had fallen down and lots of blooms are on the path. Roses are blooming early in abundance and many of the perennials we set last year have survived the winter. I have even seen an Orange Tipped Butterfly.
An article from The Friendship Book: I’m thankful for the mess to clean up after a party because it means I’m surrounded by friends; the clothes that fit a little too snugly because it means I have enough to eat; a lawn that needs mowing , windows that need cleaning, and gutters that need fixing because it means I have a home; the lady behind me in church who sings out of key because it means I can hear; the laundry and ironing to do because it means I have clothes to wear; my alarm clock which goes off early in the morning because it means I’m alive.
Reach out to the stars and forget the world, the heartache, the hurt and despair. And let quiet stillness refresh heart and soul. The peace gives you rest and repair. Iris Hesselden.
