News from the Diocese of Coventry

Following her appointment as Interim Bishop of Coventry during the Vacancy –in-See period, the Right Reverend Bishop Ruth Worsley has made arrangements to visit the Ley Group parishes.  People from the six churches are invited to meet her on Wednesday 6th March in The Barn at St Wilfrid’s at 4.00 p.m. (see below).  Representatives will give short presentations to Bishop Ruth about church life in their parishes.

As part of her familiarisation with the Diocese, Bishop Ruth has been invited to a Nuneaton Deanery Gathering in St James’ Church Bulkington on Wednesday 13th March at 7.30 p.m.  Anyone who worships in Nuneaton Deanery is invited to this event.  There will be an opportunity to ask questions, share concerns and hear the latest updates for our Deanery.

From the PCC

APCM (Annual Parochial Church Meeting)

This is the time of year when the Electoral Roll is prepared for the coming year.  People can ask to be placed on the roll at any time through the year.  In the weeks before the APCM a reminder is given to apply for enrolment if you are not on the current roll.  You don’t have to be on the roll to attend church and take part in church life.  You must be on the roll to become a member of the PCC or a Deanery Synod representative.  It gives you a voice in how the church functions locally and the opportunity to become more involved at Deanery, Diocesan or National Synod level.  Because of the numbers on roll at the moment, we are entitled to elect two Deanery Synod Representatives.  If you know you are already on the roll and wish to stay on it, you don’t need to do anything this year.  If you wish to be removed from the roll you can let the Electoral Roll Officer know at any time of the year.  If you would like to be included on the roll, please ask for an enrolment form.  Requirements and restrictions are detailed on the form but do ask if you are not sure about how to fill it in.

People on the Electoral Roll can nominate other roll members for the position of PCC member.  Again a form will need to be filled in.  Notice of the electoral roll revision will be given on 3rd March and the revision will take place from 14th March to 17th March 2024.

The date of the APCM this year is Thursday 11th April at 2.00 p.m. in the Annexe.                                                           D. Kealey, Electoral Roll Officer

Ansley Churchyard

The area designated for the interment of cremated remains in 1966 has very little space left.  The Parochial Church Council (PCC) has secured approval from the Diocese to establish a new plot in the churchyard, which will follow new Diocesan guidance.  Ashes will be poured into the ground in an existing area of grass.  A substantial cross and raised area for floral tributes will provide a focal point.  Names and dates can be inscribed on a granite memorial wall and two benches will be provided for visitors.  The estimated cost for the work is £20,000.  The plans will be made available for public viewing.  Any resident of Ansley is entitled to have their remains interred in the churchyard, unless it is designated as closed.  The creation of this new area will ensure that the churchyard will remain open for interments for many years to come.

Prayer Requests

If you would like prayers for a situation or person, please contact the church by email or phone one of the numbers on the front cover.
