Hymn – A Wonderful Saviour is Jesus My Lord

1   A wonderful Saviour is Jesus my Lord,
a wonderful
Saviour to me.
He
hideth my soul in the cleft of the rock,
where rivers of pleasure I see.

Refrain:
He hideth my soul in the cleft of the rock
that shadows a dry, thirsty land.
He hideth my life in the depths of his love,
and covers me there with his hand,
and covers me there with his hand.

2   A wonderful Savior is Jesus my Lord;
he taketh my burden away.
He holdeth me up, and I shall not be moved;
he giveth me strength as my day.

Refrain:
He hideth my soul in the cleft of the rock
that shadows a dry, thirsty land.
He hideth my life in the depths of his love,
and covers me there with his hand,
and covers me there with his hand.

3   With numberless blessings each moment he crowns,
and filled with his fullness divine,
I sing in my rapture, “Oh, glory to God
for such a Redeemer as mine!”

Refrain:
He hideth my soul in the cleft of the rock
that shadows a dry, thirsty land.
He hideth my life in the depths of his love,
and covers me there with his hand,
and covers me there with his hand.

4   When clothed in his brightness, transported I rise
to meet him in clouds of the sky,
his perfect salvation, his wonderful love,
I’ll shout with the millions on high.

Refrain:
He hideth my soul in the cleft of the rock
that shadows a dry, thirsty land.
He hideth my life in the depths of his love,
and covers me there with his hand,
and covers me there with his hand.

Have thought, said and done which we know grieve the God

who loves us

Come, let us return to the Lord and say:

All: Almighty God

Long-suffering and of great goodness

I confess to you.

I confess with my whole heart

My neglect and forgetfulness of your commandments

My wrong doing, thinking and speaking:

The hurts I have done to others,

And the good I have left undone.

O God, forgive me, for I have sinned against you;

And raise me to newness of life;

Through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Hymn As the Deer Pants for the Water

Our First Reading is taken from – Genesis Chap: 15

1 After this, Abram had a vision and heard the Lord say to him, “Do not be afraid, Abram. I will shield you from danger and give you a great reward.”

2 But Abram answered, “Sovereign Lord, what good will your reward do me, since I have no children? My only heir is Eliezer of Damascus.

3 You have given me no children, and one of my slaves will inherit my property.”

4 Then he heard the Lord speaking to him again: “This slave Eliezer will not inherit your property; your own son will be your heir.”

5 The Lord took him outside and said, “Look at the sky and try to count the stars; you will have as many descendants as that.”

6 Abram put his trust in the Lord, and because of this the Lord was pleased with him and accepted him.

This is the word of the Christ

All: Praise to you oh Christ

Our Second Reading is From – to Luke Chap: 12

32 “Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father is pleased to give you the Kingdom.

33 Sell all your belongings and give the money to the poor. Provide for yourselves purses that don’t wear out, and save your riches in heaven, where they will never decrease, because no thief can get to them, and no moth can destroy them.

34 For your heart will always be where your riches are.

35 “Be ready for whatever comes, dressed for action and with your lamps lit,

36 like servants who are waiting for their master to come back from a wedding feast. When he comes and knocks, they will open the door for him at once.

37 How happy are those servants whose master finds them awake and ready when he returns! I tell you, he will take off his coat, have them sit down, and will wait on them.

38 How happy they are if he finds them ready, even if he should come at midnight or even later!

39 And you can be sure that if the owner of a house knew the time when the thief would come, he would not let the thief break into his house.

40 And you, too, must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you are not expecting him.”

This is the word of the Christ

All: Praise to you oh Christ

Sermon –

Notes on the Sermon which was on a theme of Trust

As Abraham trusted God to give him a son and the disciples trusted Jesus to provide for their needs when they went out into the world taking not money no extra clothing with them.

So, we too have to Trust that God will provide all our needs.

Amen

Hymn – In heavenly love abiding

1 In heavenly love abiding,
no change my heart shall fear;
and safe is such confiding,
for nothing changes here:
the storm may roar without me,
my heart may low be laid;
but God is round about me,
and can I be dismayed?

2 Wherever he may guide me,
no want shall turn me back;
my Shepherd is beside me,
and nothing can I lack:
his wisdom ever waketh,
his sight is never dim,
he knows the way he taketh,
and I will walk with him.

3 Green pastures are before me,
which yet I have not seen;
bright skies will soon be o’er me,
where darkest clouds have been;
my hope I cannot measure,
my path to life is free;
my Saviour has my treasure,
and he will walk with me.

All: Our Father in heaven,

Hallowed by your name,

Your kingdom come,

Your will be done,

On earth as in heaven.

Give us today our daily bread,

Forgive us our sins

As we forgive those who sin against us.

Lead us not into temptation

But deliver us from evil.

For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours, ‘

Now and for ever.

Amen.

Hymn – What a friend we have in Jesus,

1 What a friend we have in Jesus,
all our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry
everything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit,
O what needless pain we bear,
all because we do not carry
everything to God in prayer!

2 Have we trials and temptations?
Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged;
take it to the Lord in prayer!
Can we find a friend so faithful
who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness;
take it to the Lord in prayer!

3 Are we weak and heavy laden,
cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Saviour, still our refuge–
take it to the Lord in prayer!
Do your friends despise, forsake you?
Take it to the Lord in prayer!
In his arms he’ll take and shield you;
you will find a solace there.
(by Joseph Medlicott Scriven – 1819 to 1886)

The Lord bless us, and preserve us from all evil

Your kingdom come,

Your will be done,

On earth as in heaven.

As we forgive those who sin against us.

But deliver us from evil.

For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours, ‘

Now and for ever.

All: Amen.

Closing Hymn – Great is thy faithfulness, O God my Father

  • Great is thy faithfulness, O God my Father.*
    There is no shadow of turning with thee.
    Thou changest not, thy compassions, they fail not.
    As thou hast been thou forever wilt be.

Refrain: Great is thy faithfulness!
Great is thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see.
All I have needed thy hand hath provided.
Great is thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!

  • Summer and winter, and springtime and harvest,
    sun, moon, and stars in their courses above,
    join with all nature in manifold witness
    to thy great faithfulness, mercy, and love.

Refrain: Great is thy faithfulness!
Great is thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see.
All I have needed thy hand hath provided.
Great is thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!

    thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide,
    strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow;
    blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside!

Great is thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see.
All I have needed thy hand hath provided.
