Grace, mercy and peace from God our Father

and the Lord Jesus Christ be with you

All: And also with you

Loving Lord,

Fill us with your life-giving,

joy-givingr peace-giving presence,

That we may praise you now with our lips,

and all the day long with our lives

Through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen

Cast your burden upon the Lord

All: And he will sustain you

Create in us clean hearts, O God

All: And renew a right spirit within us

Cast us not away from your Presence

All: And take not your Holy Spirit from us

Give us the joy of your saving help

All: And sustain us with your life-giving Spirit

Blessed be the Lord day by day

All: The God of our salvation, who bears our burdens.

We have a moment of quiet, to call to mind the things we

Have thought, said and done which we know grieve the God

who loves us

Come, let us return to the Lord and say:

All: Almighty God

Long-suffering and of great goodness

I confess to you.

I confess with my whole heart

My neglect and forgetfulness of your commandments

My wrong doing, thinking and speaking:

The hurts I have done to others,

And the good I have left undone.

O God, forgive me, for I have sinned against you;

And raise me to newness of life;

Through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

May the God of love and power

Forgive us and free us from our sins,

Heal and strengthen us by his Spirit,

And raise us to new life in Christ our Lord.

All: Amen.

We praise God for his love and forgiveness with:-

Hymn – Stand Up! Stand Up For Jesus

  1. Stand up, stand up for Jesus,
    Ye soldiers of the cross;
    Lift high His royal banner,
    It must not suffer loss.
    From victory unto victory
    His army shall He lead,
    Till every foe is vanquished,
    And Christ is Lord indeed.

  1. Stand up, stand up for Jesus,
    The trumpet call obey;
    Forth to the mighty conflict,
    In this His glorious day.
    Ye that are brave now serve Him
    Against unnumbered foes;
    Let courage rise with danger,
  2. And strength to strength oppose.

  1. Stand up, stand up for Jesus,
    Stand in His strength alone;
    The arm of flesh will fail you,
    Ye dare not trust your own.
    Put on the Gospel armour,
    Each piece put on with prayer;
    Where duty calls or danger,

Stand up, stand up for Jesus,
The strife will not be long;
This day the noise of battle,
The next the victor’s song.
To him who over-cometh
A crown of life shall be;
They with the King of Glory

Our First Reading is from – Genesis Chap: 32

22 That same night Jacob got up, took his two wives, his two concubines, and his eleven children, and crossed the Jabbok River.

23 After he had sent them across, he also sent across all that he owned,

24 but he stayed behind, alone. Then a man came and wrestled with him until just before daybreak.

25 When the man saw that he was not winning the struggle, he hit Jacob on the hip, and it was thrown out of joint.

26 The man said, “Let me go; daylight is coming.” “I won’t, unless you bless me,” Jacob answered.

27 “What is your name?” the man asked. “Jacob,” he answered.

28 The man said, “Your name will no longer be Jacob. You have struggled with God and with men, and you have won; so your name will be Israel.”

29 Jacob said, “Now tell me your name.” But he answered, “Why do you want to know my name?” Then he blessed Jacob.

30 Jacob said, “I have seen God face-to-face, and I am still alive”; so he named the place Peniel.

31 The sun rose as Jacob was leaving Peniel, and he was limping because of his hip

All: Praise to you O Christ

Our Second Reading is From – Matthew Chap: 14

13 When Jesus heard the news about John, he left there in a boat and went to a lonely place by himself. The people heard about it, and so they left their towns and followed him by land.

14 Jesus got out of the boat, and when he saw the large crowd, his heart was filled with pity for them, and he healed their sick.

15 That evening his disciples came to him and said, “It is already very late, and this is a lonely place. Send the people away and let them go to the villages to buy food for themselves.”

16 “They don’t have to leave,” answered Jesus. “You yourselves give them something to eat!”

17 “All we have here are five loaves and two fish,” they replied.

18 “Then bring them here to me,” Jesus said.

19 He ordered the people to sit down on the grass; then he took the five loaves and the two fish, looked up to heaven, and gave thanks to God. He broke the loaves and gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people.

20 Everyone ate and had enough. Then the disciples took up twelve baskets full of what was left over.

21 The number of men who ate was about five thousand, not counting the women and children.

Sermon

The feeding of the 5000

How did that many people gather together at one place in those days?

Did the young boy’s mother put together his lunch for his picnic , much as mother’s have done for generations so that children can go and play.

Many people have prejudices against nationalities, but even in times of hard-ship people will help individuals as they are all a mother’s child.

We are in a broken world, but everyone is the child of a mother. So many in the world today are hungry.

We can all do our bit, but to provide for so many!

Only through prayer can we all do our bit and ask, as only God can provide for so many.

Amen

Hymn – A Wonderful Saviour is Jesus my Lord!

  1. A wonderful Saviour is Jesus my Lord,
    A wonderful Saviour to me,
    He hideth my soul in the cleft of the rock,
    Where rivers of pleasure I see.

  1. He hideth my soul in the cleft of the rock
    That shadows a dry, thirsty land;
    He hideth my life in the depths of his love,
    And covers me there with his hand.

  1. A wonderful Saviour is Jesus my Lord,
    He taketh my burden away,
    He holdeth me up, and I shall not be moved,
    He giveth me strength as my day.

  1. With numberless blessings each moment he crowns,
    And filled with a fullness divine,
    I sing in my rapture, O glory to God
    For such a Redeemer as mine!

  1. When clothed in his brightness, transported I rise
    To meet him in clouds of the sky,
    His perfect salvation, his wonderful love,
    I’ll shout with the millions on high.
    ( by Fanny Crosby – 1890)
