From the Registers

Rex Thomas John Green celebrated his baptism on the 7th May 2017, supported by his parents, Wesley and Alexandra, his Godparents, family and friends.

We ask God’s blessing on Rex as he sets out on the path of faith, with his parents and Godparents to encourage and support him.

Report on the process of appointing a new vicar

The PCC are pleased to report that the post is now being advertised in the Church Times and on Diocesan and local church websites.  Please join us in prayer that suitable applicants may apply and that we may soon be able to appoint a new vicar.  We thank everyone who has been involved in the preparations for and the final wording of the advertisement.

Quinquennial (five yearly) inspection of the church fabric

This inspection by our church architect is due shortly.  Some of the work identified at the previous inspection has not been completed.  For instance the church has not been redecorated internally because there is an outstanding problem of rainwater entering somewhere between the tower and the nave roof after heavy rain and strong wind from the east or north-east.  This will be sorted out as soon as possible and other issues reported this time will be addressed in due course.

Coffee Morning and Bring and Buy

Marie and David Cove invite you to a coffee morning at 32, Nuthurst Crescent on Wednesday 14th June between 10.00 a.m. and 12 noon.  Funds raised will be sent to the charity Childline.  Come along and enjoy delicious cakes and a friendly chat in their beautiful garden.

The Great Community Mural Competition 2017

Our insurers, Ecclesiastical, are running this competition.  They would like an original piece of artwork on A3 paper to celebrate the role our church plays in the local community.  Entries can be created by anyone with a connection to the church, young or old and collaborations are welcome!  Any medium may be used, collage, crayons, chalk, felt-tip, embroidery or other!

The Great Community Mural will be 10 metres long and 3 metres high, featuring as many entries as possible and with the best 5 printed on a larger scale.  The overall winner will have pride of place in the centre of the mural.

The winning church will receive £10 000 and four runners up will receive £2 500 each.  The mural will be displayed in London and then tour a select number of cathedrals around the country.

The closing date for entries is 21st August 2017.  Please contact a church member if you would like to be involved in this competition.

The Historic Churches’ Trust Ride and Stride 2017

We hope to have a representative to take part in this fund-raising event, which will be held on Saturday 9th September 2017.  The money raised goes to help keep historic church buildings in good order, with a proportion returned to our own church funds.  Cycle routes between churches are produced, with cyclists stamping their sheet at each church visited.  We will hope to have our church open to visitors on that day.  More participants would be welcome!

Ansley Village Art Group Exhibition and Sale

In recent years, this event has been held in June, but this year the date has been changed to Saturday 23rd September.  The event will be held in Ansley Village Hall, from 10.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m., with light refreshments available.  The artwork has been produced by a group that meets in the hall on Fridays from 1.00 p.m. to 3.00 p.m.  (Weekly fee £2.00) Previous exhibitions have been praised by visitors and have lead to new members joining the group.  Most weeks members work on their own projects but visiting tutors lead sessions several times a year.

Prayer Requests

If you would like someone or a particular situation remembered in prayer at our Sunday Services, both at St. Laurence’s and at St. John’s, please hand the slip below to a member of the church congregation or contact a warden.  Phone numbers are on the front page of this magazine.  Please remember that a visit can be arranged to anyone who is sick, but the wardens do need to know, so again please ring.
