Christmas Tree Festival 2016

27 Sep 16

December 2016 will bring our 11th Christmas Tree Festival, and whilst the format is very similar each year, the trees will be different. We are aware that some people plan their trees months in advance, even 12 months beforehand. At the time of writing we do not know the titles of many trees, but if last year is anything to go by they are sure to be very imaginative. Last year there were titles such as “Angelictry”, “Three Little Pigs”, “Monastree”, “Heart of Gold” and “Nativitree”. All were decorated by individuals or groups that had decided to take part in this now established event.

As in previous years there will be a crib on the altar to remind all of us, that the gift to mankind of the baby Jesus is the true meaning of Christmas.

There will continue to be a Remembrance Tree where there is the opportunity for the names of loved ones to be written on stars and put on the tree for £1. This money will go towards the cost of cutting the churchyard grass, which is at present £260 per cut.

In the vestry there will be the Prayer Tree, where prayers can be pegged to the tree and all of these will be brought to the Lord over the Christmas period. There will also be the opportunity to light a candle.

As well as Christmas Trees and to give added interest there will be big stars, angels, baubles and a giant bell suspended from the arches or ceilings. Plus a display of “Memories of Past Times” and other items around the church.

The opening hours will continue to be the same as in previous years for the three weekends prior to Christmas i.e. Saturdays 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sundays 11.30 a.m.to 6 p.m.

If an organisation/group would like to arrange a visit on a week day this may be possible, please contact 01827 874520.

Admission will continue to be £2.00 per person, and accompanied children under 12 will be free. The proceeds will be in aid of Church funds, with a donation of 15% being given to the Mary Ann Evans Hospice.

Throughout the weekends there will be tea, coffee, hot chocolate and mince pies available in the annexe, and also a raffle for a Christmas cake.

On Saturday 17th Jess and Richard Arrowsmith with Jo Ma will performing a Christmas Concert of Traditional English carols and tunes. There will be mulled wine and minced pies. Tickets £10 including the refreshments, to reserve 02476392555 or arrowsmith966@btinternet.com .

With 60 beautifully decorated trees, we feel this will be a wonderful way to add to your Christmas celebrations. So why not come along and enjoy the wonder of our Festival, which we hope will be another lovely experience. A few comments from our Visitor Book last year are given below -
